Air Asia X, the long-haul sister airline of Air Asia, Asia’s largest (and best) low-cost airline, will launch flights between London Stansted and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 11th March 2009. Air Asia X will utilise Airbus A340′s for the five times a week direct service. Return tickets start at GBP 513 (including taxes). There’s also a larger seat available (Premium XL) and that’s about GBP 900 for a return ticket.
I’ve used Air Asia extensively in Southeast Asia (flights of up to 3 hours) and I’ve found the staff to be very friendly and efficient. The food on board (try the Malaysian stuff) is really good and (dirt) cheap! The Airbus planes are all new while the leather seats are comfortable and not as cramped as those on low-cost airlines in Europe and the US. Furthermore, Air Asia and Air Asia X have an extensive network throughout Southeast Asia, China and India, and various destinations in Australia. The only thing is… well, it’s a budget airline so you pay for everything. Don’t think you’ll get away with your luggage being just a pound overweight without having to pay for it!
In addition, Air Asia’s partner company Go Holiday offers very reasonably-priced flight+hotel packages.
