“The Hotel Search Engine”
That’s a pretty plain but wonderfully accurate description of a hotel booking tool that’s incredibly powerful, quick and informative. I like the simple, straightforward format: choose a destination, enter the dates, number of people and rooms required, then click on ‘Search Hotels’. Within seconds, Hotel Calculator scans 20-odd travel sites and a list appears of the available hotels and the prices offered by each travel site. I’ve tried it a few times and on each occasion, I was impressed by the speed with which the results are calibrated.
From the Search Result page, you can add more filters to narrow down the search, such as by budget, location, amenities, rating or by accommodation type. I especially liked the possibility of singling out hotels which offer internet access. It is also possible to search for hotels and apply the same filters using a Google map that shows the locations of the individual hotels – another great feature of this site.
The information provided for each hotel is adequate: a short description of the hotel, a list of services/amenities, a selection of photos and a map showing the location of the hotel. There are no reviews.
For each search, Hotel Calculator accesses the databases of 23 hotel booking sites, including Booking.com, Hotel Club, Rates to Go, Agoda and Venere, to find the best deals available. Together, these sites offer more than 100,000 hotels around the world. The ability to compare and assess the most suitable deal from such a wide array of sources through a single search engine is certainly Hotel Calculator’s biggest trump. Once a hotel selection is made, Hotel Calculator directs the visitor to the relevant travel site and the booking is made there.
I’m especially impressed with Hotel Calculator’s ease of use. There’s no clutter, just the plain facts and a list of prices to compare. This convenient one-stop source for hotel rates gets a thumbs up from velvet!
