Queensland, Australia has some of the most beautiful scenery in the whole country, worldwide famous for its beautiful beaches and surf riding. Whitsunday Islands, also has a long chain of 74 islands located on the neck of the Coral Sea as gemstones, situated in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef. If you closed your eyes and imagine the most beautiful beach in the world, it would be the Whitsunday Islands.

Thanks for your comment. Those photos of the Bahamas are AWESOME! So wish I was on a warm, white, sandy beach right now! :-)

Fantastic list and I wish I was at any one of these right now! So far my favourite beaches have been at Great Exuma in the Bahamas. Here are some photos from my visit: http://www.acmphotography.com/2009/02/great-exuma-bahamas-photos/

Most of the beaches around Samoa are crystal clear and excellent for snorkelling. The colours are stunning ........shades of aqua contrasting with white sand and green coconut palms.

It is hard to choose just one or two. Le Logoto on Savaii is lovely. Lefaga was my favourite when we lived there. Blue fishes swimming round your ankles and like a warm bath in temperature.

See for your self here. http://www.fascinating-travel-destinations.com/sightseeing-in-samoa.html Some of these are recovering from the tsunami but will soon be back in business for tourists.

Along with the Bay of Islands in New Zealand there are several gorgeous crystal clear beaches around the Coromandel Peninsula...Hahei, Cathedral Cove and Chums beach.

In Northland but not the Bay of Islands is Matai Bay, Langs Beach.....Waiheke Island in Auckland's Hauraki Gulf has many... but Onetangi is my favourite......I won't make you all envious by telling you I had two swims yesterday at my own lovely local beach just down the road!

Beaches are mesmerizing, I can stare at the water for a really long time too. I have only seen Australian beaches, and still haven't seen The Great Barrier Reef yet. I plan to try snorkeling there one day, I hear it's amazing!
You are incredibly fortunate to have seen so many beaches, one day I hope to see them, but for now it's just photos and imagination. Thanx for the beach info. Cheers :)

Does give you something to dream about, doesn't it? Especially when it's cold, wet & dark now (in the northern hemisphere anyway). Thanks for your suggestions too.

Cheers,

Can I add 3 of my favourites for this topic? 1) Alma Bay, Magnetic Island, Australia 2) Squeaky Beach, Wilson's Promontory (most southerly point of mainland Australia) and 3) Ras Mohammed, Sinai, Egypt

You're lucky to have been able to find out about so many great beaches. It's making me wistful on a cold December day.

I'd like to add my own crystal-watered beach. In Buzios, Brazil there's a beach called Praia do Forno. It's one of twenty or more beaches in the Buzios area, most of which are really nice, but this one is cool because of its reddish sand and a sparkling greenish-blue water. Simply wonderful.

Haha, thank you Simon for the suggestions. I was thinking of Egypt but (shhh...I haven't been there!). I would love to visit Seychelles, Mauritius & La Reunion too! Anyway, thought this post would be good for those of us sitting in the dark & cold winter days. :-)

Cheers,
Keith

What about Egypt? I'm not thinking at the beaches close to big resorts, where unfortunately huge damages have strongly compromised the environment, but I've been diving many times by liveaboard, and there are still places where the water is cristal-clear and has beautiful colours.

I would also add Seychelles (especially Praslin and La Digue) and Los Roques archipelago (Venezuela).

Let's stop now... I don't want to thik at white sand beaches and cristal-clear water while I'm in grey and rainy Milan... :-(

Cheers!
