I now add them to a list and read their Tweets for a time. I might then Follow them or I will follow if they follow me. Yes, you can follow someone, but I no longer add Tweeps to my follow list unless I want a 2 way conversation with them. I now add them to a list and read their Tweets for a time. I might then Follow them or I will follow if they follow me. There is no point in following anyone who doesn’t follow back as you can read their Tweets by adding them to a list.

I use the Apture plugin for these and I've never had a problem with it. It's really quick and shows more or less the same if you were to insert a normal link to the person's profile.
