One of the world’s epic train journeys is the Rocky Mountaineer which crosses the Canadian Rockies from Jasper or Banff/Calgary to Vancouver or vice-versa. During my two-day trip on the Rocky Mountaineer, I took many photos of the train tracks and the beautiful fall colours as we made our way across the Rocky Mountains. As a tribute to this stunning train route and the people who built it, I’ve compiled a photo essay of some of my favourite shots taken en-route from Jasper, Alberta to Kamloops, British Columbia. I hope you enjoy these photos! You’re also most welcome to read about my trip aboard the Rocky Mountaineer.

The sun rises as we leave Jasper.

As we head deeper into the Rockies, we pass mile…..

….. after mile…..

….. after mile of towering forests and snowy mountains.

One of the highlights of the journey is when we pass Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies.

Mt. Robson disappears from our view as the train continues its journey…

….. winding its way through the forest,

… offering splendid views from the glass dome carriage.

On the other side of the Rockies, the landscape is noticeably drier…

… and we pass the first communities on this leg of the journey.

We cross the Thompson River as we approach Kamloops…

… and we’re treated to a grand Kamloops welcome as we pull into the station.
Note: a big thank you goes to the Rocky Mountaineer for your wonderful hospitality.

You’re most welcome Jeff!
Wow!! What a journey. Such spectacular scenery along the way and you’ve captured it magnificently! Thanks for taking me along for a ride on the rails!
Love the Rockies. Crossing them by train looks like a great way to see them, especially in the glass car.
