Thai duck curry on Qantas

Thai duck curry on Qantas

To me, the food served on board a plane is one of the highlights of any flight, especially the long-haul ones. I don’t mind a simple sandwich or a cookie for the very short flights just as long as the quality is good. It’s during the long flights that the quality of food matters even more as the following article highlights. During my recent travels, I’ve had meals that were just abominable, like that hot-cold meal combo on a 12-hour KLM flight that included a tasteless potato salad (the cold part) and a small bowl of chemical-tasting tomato soup (the hot part)… and that was dinner!! A recent complaint by a passenger on a Virgin Atlantic flight takes the cake though. I’ve also had some fantastic meals, like that divine won ton noodle soup on Cathay Pacific or that sublime Thai duck curry on Qantas (with their tasty food and fresh salads, Qantas ranks high in my book). In-flight food standards vary greatly and with the rise and rise of low-cost airlines, premium airlines should do more to justify their higher prices by, among others, serving tastier, fresher food in both the front and the back of the plane. Forget the gimmicks, like celebrity chefs. Just focus on the quality of the food. Get it right and the dividends will be much more than any celebrity chef can even dream of generating.

I have not personally flown with Qantas or Cathay Pacific. But I can only recommend Kuwait Airlines for the food they serve. I have always found the dishes tasty and gobble them up right up to the dessert. I’ve not been disappointed once in the many times I’ve flown with them including their service, yes, even to economy passengers. To top it all, they always have the best price on offer for my destinations.
