Mobile voice calls on flights: the people have spoken!
A week ago, I posted an article on the use of mobile phones on planes (“Mobile voice calls on flights: not a good idea”) in which I voiced my concerns about this developing trend. The article attracted quite some interest, including a comment from a representative of OnAir, a Swiss company that provides the mobile systems used in aircraft. A week has now passed and it seems I’m one of the few that’s not enthusiastic about allowing passengers to use their mobile phones during flights. Of those who voted in my small poll, an overwhelming 80% chose to allow both voice calls and text messaging on board.
I’ve voiced my opinion and the people have spoken, sadly not in my favour. Being the good sport that I am, I rest my case! Good thing I have my noise-cancelling headphones! I would, however, still like to urge airlines to consider introducing special areas on board where passengers can make calls without disturbance to others. If space is an issue, passengers can always resort to making their calls in the lavatories.
Ok, one final attempt! Should voice calls be allowed on flights? Please vote in the poll below. Thank you!

Hi Gaby,
I’m also happy that there are people who oppose mobile calls on flights!
Thank you so much for your comment. I’m really happy that you like this blog
Best regards,
Keith
PS/ I really liked your ‘list’ assignment on Bali for the DBBB#31.
Hi Keith, got your link from ProBlogger. My passion is also travel, unfortunately I don’t leave Indonesia that much anymore since long time ago. But I love exploring my island,Bali. I see that you’ve been here recently?
I’m also against using cell phone in plane, on many domestic flights I’d been, people are so ignorant with this rule, they seem not patient enough to call or text as soon as the plane touchs ground, some just even don’t bother with the rule they keep making phone call during the flight!
I love your blog!
Hi there,
I’m thrilled that you see my point of view.
Cheers,
Keith
Having traveled extensively on the European train network, I would be incensed if I had to deal with the same mobile phone chatter on an 7 hour flight from Geneva to New York that I deal with on the 4 hour journey from Geneva to Milan via train. Air travel is unpleasant enough without mobile conversation.
