My velvet escape travel tip: Miami, Florida

2009 September 28

My velvet escape travel tip” is a guest series about what the name ‘Velvet Escape’ evokes and what that would be in the hometown of the guest writer. With this series, I hope to uncover travel tips from places around the world to help visitors have a truly local experience.

When I think of the feeling that a Velvet Escape evokes, I think of Miami .

The DelanoVelvet is vivid to the eye, and sensual to the touch; and so is gorgeous Miami. An escape represents a breaking away from boundaries, and Miami has few inhibitions. The minimalist attitude towards clothing, and the eclectic mix of cultures and music only enhance her image as a city overflowing with vibrant experiences for the senses. The weather is warm, the city is cool, and the people are hot.

Miami Car Hire – 22062010The spot that epitomizes Miami for me is Delano, one of my favourite luxury spa hotels. It’s nestled right in South Beach, with a white decor, and a beautiful clientele. I love the sense of luxury in the midst of all the excitement. You can have the best of this sensual city in one urban oasis. The rooms, the spa, the art work, and the restaurants all make you feel as if you’ve been transported. You’ve escaped the mundane, and entered the world of extraordinary. I especially love Rose Bar. It delights the senses, and yet has a relaxing, cool vibe that isn’t overwhelming. It’s also my perfect spot to begin the perfect Miami weekend.

About this week’s guest writer
Dee Anne WhiteDee Anne White is a girl adventurer, traveller, aspiring expatriate, and lover of cricket, golf, wine, Jimmy Choos and life. Dee Anne shares her experiences on Live the Charmed Life, a site which “shares the ways I’ve built a life I love, because somehow I’ve become the person others come to with those sorts of questions. I’m the girl many call if they want to plan a trip to London, get the name of a fantastic restaurant in NYC or Las Vegas, pick the perfect bottle of wine, find out the score of the Laker game, throw a memorable backyard party, or get a perspective from behind rose colored glasses.”
