Plane views: Putrajaya, Malaysia

2009 October 6

IMG_5236All flights that approach the Kuala Lumpur International Airport from the north fly over Malaysia’s new administrative capital, Putrajaya. To have the best views, I recommend sitting on the left side of the plane (i.e. row ‘A’). Located approximately 45 kilometers south of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya was built at a tune of $8.1 billion to relieve congestion in the country’s capital, Kuala Lumpur. The Prime Minister’s Office and various ministeries relocated to Putrajaya in 1999.

The main artery, an eight-lane avenue, runs from the Prime Minister’s Office to the Convention Centre. The architecture is absolutely stunning, my favourite being the impressive Palace of Justice building, which is an eclectic blend of Moorish, renaissance and Persian influences.
