‘The One Thing’ in Amsterdam
I love trying to pinpoint ‘The One Thing’ that sums up the thrill of travel. Travelling around the world allows me to consider fresh ideas and meet people with experiences totally removed from my own. When that ‘One Thing’ is completely new, it becomes a memory that can define an entire trip.
Sometimes ‘The One Thing’ is a single site or place that exceeds expectations and makes a trip memorable. I liked the recent ‘The One Thing’ vodcasts by Charley Boorman (of The Long Way Around). He travels to Paris, Madrid, Edinburgh, and Amsterdam, demonstrating one site or experience that can transform a trip. The suggestions are inventive and fun: his ‘One Thing’ to do is always off the much-beaten tourist track from Amsterdam’s smallest micro-brewery to a nifty means of travelling the French capital. The videos are certainly worth a look if you’re planning a trip to any of the these cities.

The ‘De Prael’ Brewery or (Brouwerij de Prael in Dutch) is a lovely brewery located in the heart of Amsterdam along the Oudezijds Voorburgwal (don’t bother trying to pronounce that one! 
), one of the city’s oldest canals.

Ah Charley makes my heart flutter! I’m a huge fan of his ‘Long Way Round’ and ‘By Any Means’ series, cant get enough of him and his amusing travel entics. Thanks Keith for introducing his ‘One Thing’ series, wont miss it!
