I was determined to stay awake on a flight from Amsterdam to Seattle. I’ve flown this route many times before but this was the first time that I had my camera right next to me, in the hope of getting some good shots of the icy lands of Greenland and northeastern Canada. The weather was great, the sky was clear and my decision to stay up was rewarded. The flight route took us past Iceland, Greenland and across to Baffin Island (map) in Canada. The plane window views of Baffin Island were simply stunning!

The flight path across Baffin Island

Baffin Island is located in the Canadian territory of Nunavut, and is home to the territory’s capital, Iqaluit. Roughly the size of Spain, Baffin Island is the largest island in Canada and the fifth-largest in the world. It’s a mountainous island of fjords, glaciers and towering cliffs. The views of Baffin Island from the plane window were absolutely amazing!

  • Those are really nice Keith! I never tire of the view over the Arctic, it’s mesmerizing!

  • Wow gorgeous pics! I always try to stay awake to see the view but end up falling asleep everytime. I think I have flying-narcosis

  • Gorgeous. I did the same when we flew from Calgary-London just a couple weeks ago and caught the sunrise over Greenland. Well worth staying up for 🙂

  • Hahaha, glad I stayed up for it. I slept for about an hour when the plane flew over the Canadian prairies as I wanted to get up again for the flight over the Rockies! Consequence: arriving in Seattle feeling and moving like a zombie! 😉

  • Great pictures, I have flown over this route many times on the way from London to Denver.
