Velvet moments: travel photo – Old Church, Amsterdam

The Oude Kerk or ‘Old Church’ is one of my favourite churches in Amsterdam. Built in the 14th century, the church is one of the oldest buildings in Amsterdam. It’s a sight to behold on the outside but step inside and you’ll be greeted by a bright, cavernous space and the stunning wooden ceiling. These days, the church is used primarily as an exhibition (the World Press Photo awards ceremony is held here) and concert venue (the acoustics are superb!). On a recent stroll, I couldn’t help but stop to take this picture; the light was simply magical and the church looked absolutely gorgeous against the blue sky.

    Hi Chanel,

Absolutely! It’s right in the middle of the Red Light District so there’s more to see in the area. Haha!

That church is quite lovely! I will have to visit it when I go to Amsterdam this summer 😀

I love this place too, Keith! I especially love the ‘Museum of Broken Relationships’ currently housed inside. Great picture!
