Travel etiquette: please cover up

Please cover up
There are many countries around the world where clothing that reveals too much is simply not appreciated. I’ve often seen tourists dressed in nothing more than skimpy swimwear in restaurants, even in planes. I was in Zanzibar once and there were many signs around requesting beach-goers to refrain from wearing swimwear that was too revealing, or from topless bathing. Alas, there were many visitors who simply chose to ignore these requests.

A common custom in many countries is for women to wear a headscarf and for everyone to cover up bare arms and legs when entering a temple or mosque. When planning a trip, check ahead. It’s a good idea to be aware of the local customs and to bring appropriate attire with you. It’s simply good manners and it shows your respect for the customs of your hosts.
